Independent Starlink referral guide
Starlink is SpaceX's low Earth orbit satellite internet: a constellation roughly 550 km up that delivers broadband with latency around 25 ms, instead of the 600+ ms of the old geostationary satellite services. If your street never got fiber, it is the difference between waiting for a page and actually working from home.

The referral offer
You and I get the same reward.
Amounts, eligibility and payout method are set by Starlink and can change. Terms captured October 2026.

What you are actually buying
Not the satellite internet you may remember. The old services ran from single spacecraft parked 35,786 km away in geostationary orbit, which is why the delay was so painful. Starlink flies a constellation at roughly 550 km instead, and that shorter round trip is what turns a last-resort connection into something you can work over. Read Starlink's own explanation.
Starlink satellites orbit at about 550 km, far below the 35,786 km geostationary ring. That short distance is why latency drops so dramatically.
Each satellite carries optical space lasers (intersatellite links) that can pass traffic up to 200 Gbps between satellites, forming a mesh in orbit rather than depending on a single ground station.
The kit's flat phased-array terminal is electronically steered. Plug it in, point it at open sky, and it acquires satellites on its own — Starlink calls this plug and play setup.
The router broadcasts the connection indoors to your normal devices. Nothing else changes: same phones, same laptops, same streaming apps.

One dish, one address, no waiting for the network to reach your road.
Farms, bush blocks, islands, mountain towns and anywhere the local provider quietly decided not to build. One address, one dish, real broadband.
Starlink Roam plans are built for campers, boaters and people who work from wherever they park, with standby pausing when you are not travelling.
A second path to the internet that does not share the failure modes of a wired line: no pole down the road, no local exchange, no regional outage taking you with it.
Where the only options were expensive, capped, or slower-than-mobile satellite, LEO satellite internet changes the comparison entirely.
The honest performance picture
Any page that promises you a fixed speed is selling, not explaining. Here is what Starlink publishes, and the conditions it names that affect your result.
Up to 400+ Mbps in most places globally, with the current V5 kit described by Starlink as reaching speeds up to 375+ Mbps. Enough for 4K streaming on several screens at once.
Residential 100 Mbps and 200 Mbps plans are explicitly limited to those download speeds and are only offered in select areas. Residential Max gets maximum available speeds and top network priority.
Starlink states speeds are maximum available speeds, are not guaranteed, and are slower during congestion. Location, local network load, weather and physical obstructions all move the number.
Around 25 ms typical latency is what makes video calls, online gaming and remote desktop use realistic on satellite — the thing legacy satellite internet could never do.
Starlink states that advertised speeds are maximum available speeds, are not guaranteed, and will be slower during times of congestion. You can check the availability map and published speeds for your area before ordering, and Starlink's 30-day trial is the practical way to test your own location. Figures captured October 2026.
Plans and pricing
Prices below are Starlink's US list prices in US dollars, captured October 2026. In other countries the tiers, currency, availability and even whether a tier exists all differ. Confirm your own price on starlink.com before you commit to anything — this page cannot quote your country.

The kit
I am deliberately not quoting a hardware price here: kit pricing, the model sold and shipping are country-specific and change over time. Starlink shows your exact total at checkout, and its shop lists current kits and accessories.
A flat, electronically steered phased-array antenna that acquires satellites on its own. No aiming, no installer tuning the azimuth by hand — Starlink calls the setup plug and play.
A single cable from the terminal to the router. Starlink sells longer replacement cables where the standard run is not enough for a remote mount.
Brings Wi-Fi to your devices indoors, and is the only part of the kit that needs to be inside.
The kit runs from mains power. Off-grid setups need their own power arrangement, which is outside Starlink's standard installation.

How the referral reward works
Referral offers attract nonsense, so this page spells out the conditions exactly as Starlink states them. If those terms do not suit you, order Starlink anyway — the product is the point.
Use the link on this page to reach starlink.com. Ordering through the link is what attaches the referral to the new account.
The reward only applies to sign-ups made on starlink.com. Kits bought from resellers or retailers, or received by account transfer, are not eligible.
Starlink issues the reward after the referred account has been subscribed for two months. Nothing is paid on the day you sign up.
You and the person referred receive the same reward. In most countries it can be taken as cash or service credit, and the amount depends on the country the sign-up happened in.
Sign up on starlink.com through my referral link, activate, and stay subscribed for two months. After that Starlink issues the same reward to both of us — service credit by default, or cash where your country supports it.

Questions worth answering
Every answer below is drawn from Starlink's published material rather than from a commissioned review. Where Starlink sets a rule, this page says so and points you at it.
It is built for people the wired networks skipped: rural and remote homes, travellers, and anyone stuck on slow or capped connections. If you already have fast, cheap fibre, Starlink is unlikely to beat it on price. If your best option today is a congested mobile hotspot or a legacy satellite plan, it is usually a large step up.
Starlink advertises up to 400+ Mbps in most places globally, and the current V5 kit as reaching up to 375+ Mbps. Starlink also states these are maximum available speeds, are not guaranteed, and are slower during times of congestion. Your real number will depend on your location, local load, weather and whether your terminal has a clear view of the sky.
Latency is the whole point of low Earth orbit. Starlink describes latency around 25 ms, against 600+ ms for the traditional geostationary satellite services that made real-time use nearly impossible. Video calls and online gaming are realistic; competitive timing-sensitive gaming will still feel better on a good wired line.
The kit is designed for plug and play self-install: place the terminal outside with an unobstructed view of the sky, run the cable inside, connect the router and power it on. Starlink offers free professional home installation with the 200 Mbps and Max Residential plans, where available. Non-penetrating mounts, roof mounts and pole mounts are sold separately.
Yes, through the Roam plans, which Starlink positions for RVs, nomads and campers, including in-motion use. Roam tiers are metered on high-speed data with unlimited low-speed data after the allotment, except the Unlimited tier. Standby Mode lets you pause and hold the hardware for a small monthly fee. International travel, coastal coverage and in-motion use have their own limitations that Starlink documents separately.
Starlink says the hardware is engineered to melt snow and withstand sleet, heavy rain and harsh winds, and weather resilience is one of its advertised plan features. Severe weather can still interrupt service briefly, and pointed out in Starlink's own materials, speeds are not guaranteed.
Yes, more than almost anything else. The terminal needs a clear view of the sky, and obstructions like tree canopy, roofs or hills cause dropouts. Starlink's app includes an obstruction checker you can use before you commit to a mounting location — use it first, because moving the dish later is the most common fix.
Starlink operates in 160+ countries, territories and other markets, but service, hardware, plan tiers and even whether the referral reward can be paid as cash all vary by country. Always confirm availability and terms on starlink.com for your own address before relying on anything on this page.
Two parts: the hardware kit and the monthly service plan. US Residential service list prices at the time of writing are $55/mo for 100 Mbps, $85/mo for 200 Mbps and $130/mo for Max, with Roam tiers at $55, $80 and $175 per month. Kit pricing, shipping and taxes are shown at checkout for your country, and Starlink changes them from time to time.
Starlink advertises a 30-day trial: if you are not satisfied, you can get a full refund under its terms. Roam customers can also pause service with Standby Mode. Read Starlink's current terms in your region, because refund and cancellation conditions are Starlink's to set.
